Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship

The Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship is designed for prospective and beginner entrepreneurs. The program will support a student's mastery of the skills, abilities and perspectives required to launch a successful entrepreneurial venture, and lead it through the early growth stage. Entrance Requirements

Applicants must present evidence of graduation from a high school which has been accredited by an agency approved by the U.S. Department of Education, or its international equivalent, or provide evidence of acceptance into a college accredited by an agency approved by the U.S. Department of Education, or its international equivalent, or provide proof of satisfactory performance on the General Education Development tests.

Program Requirements

The BSE requires the completion of a minimum of the equivalent of 120 semester hours of work. A minimum of 30 hours of that work must be completed at Carland, and a maximum of 90 hours may be transferred to the College from an approved school. A link to the left presents course descriptions.

General Education Requirements

We require the satisfactory completion of a minimum of 44 semester hours, or their equivalent in quarter hours, in general education. This requirement may be satisfied by the transfer of credit. The general education requirements include:

  • English
  • Humanities and Fine Arts
  • Coursework must include at least three discipline areas, chosen from art, communication, music, foreign language, philosophy, religion or speech, and at least one course must be in literature.

  • Social and Behavioral Sciences
  • Coursework must include at least three discipline areas, chosen from anthropology, economics, geography, political science, psychology or sociology, and at least one course must be in history.

  • Natural Sciences and Mathematics
  • Coursework must include at least one course chosen from the mathematics discipline, at least two courses chosen from the biological or physical sciences which will include laboratory work, and at least one course chosen from mathematics, computer science or statistics.

Core Requirements

We require the satisfactory completion of a minimum of 46 semester hours, or their equivalent in quarter hours, in business education and electives. This requirement may be satisfied by the transfer of credit. The business education and elective requirements include:

  • Principles of Accounting
  • Principles of Economics
  • Computer Science or Computer Information Systems
  • Business Law
  • Management
  • Marketing
  • Finance
  • Business Elective approved by the Student Advisor
  • General Electives approved by the Student Advisor

Major Requirements

Carland requires the satisfactory completion of a minimum of 30 semester hours in Entrepreneurship. This requirement must by satisfied by coursework taken at Carland College in specified areas. The requirements include:

  • Introduction to Entrepreneurship
  • Innovation and Creativity
  • Venture Organizational and Startup Issues
  • Entrepreneurial Accounting I
  • Entrepreneurial Accounting II
  • Franchising and E-Commerce Issues
  • Entrepreneurial Marketing
  • Entrepreneurial Finance
  • Introduction to Business Planning
  • The Business Plan
  • Each course is worth 3 semester hours of credit.

Dual Enrollment and Timing Requirements

There is no time limit required for completion of the requirements and no time limitations on credits which can be transferred to the College. Students may start work at Carland as soon as they have been accepted into the program, and may continue to be an enrolled student at another college while enrolled at Carland. The Student Advisor will work with an individual student to work out a schedule of course work which ensure that the student is prepared for the material in each course, before attempting that course.
